Delta Academy

Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy

Anne Arundel County girls ages 11-14 are invited to participate in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy. Named after Dr. Betty Shabazz, an Honorary Member of Delta Sigma Theta and widow of civil rights leader Malcolm X, the Delta Academy was created as a way to offer opportunities for personal, academic, and social development to preteen and early teenage girls.

NACAC has touched the lives of more than 300 girls under this initiative since its inception. Activities have included, but are not limited to, Science in Everyday Experiences (SEE) activities, mathematics tutorials, public speaking,
book club, saving money, and college campus tours. Past community service projects include Sarah's House, a supportive housing program for homeless families and the Harmony House, a meeting ground for foster children and their biological families. Additionally, participants have assisted chapter members with the annual Valentine's Day party at Pinewood East, an assisted living facility.
