Scholarships

North Arundel County Alumnae Chapter’s (NACAC) Scholarship Committee is committed to
enhancing the lives of residents of Anne Arundel County, acknowledging educational
achievement, and encouraging continued academic pursuits are primary objectives of the North
Arundel County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

NACAC Distinguished Scholar Award:

Eligibility Criteria:

​

  • Be a resident of Anne Arundel County
  • Be an African American female or male reflecting the predominantly African American heritage of the sorority

  • Be a graduating high school senior attending a high school in Anne Arundel County

  • Be accepted by a 4-year college/university or community college program on a full-time

  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in the chosen college/university or community college basis program on a full-time basis

  • Be involved in any or all of the following areas: volunteer community service; extra-curricular activities; or other special endeavors that contribute to personal growth and community

The Delores Winborne Memorial Scholarship:

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Meet all requirements of NACAC Distinguished Scholarship Award

  • Intended degree field of study in the field of nursing or a related degree in the field of medicine.

NACAC Continuing Education Scholar:

Eligibility Criteria:

​​

  • Be a previous NACAC Distinguished Scholar Award recipient.

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university or community college.

  • Have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Plan to continue at a college/university or community college program on a full-time basis.

  • Be involved in any or all of the following areas: volunteer community service; extra-curricular activities; or other special endeavors that contribute to personal growth and community

NACAC Second Chance Award:

Eligibility Criteria:

  • A woman who is facing significant hardship in her effort to attain higher education and/orbetter employment opportunities.

  • Intend to utilize the award to pay for a college-level course(s) or other training that mayenhance career possibilities.

  • Persons who already possess undergraduate degrees or advanced degrees are ineligible for consideration of this award.

To apply:
 Submit a completed application form with appropriate signatures.  
 Provide a typed response to the essay questions.  
 Submit a transcript or academic record containing your enrolled school information.
 Attach a headshot of yourself that will be retained by NACAC.  
 Attach TWO signed letters of recommendation addressed to NACAC from the following:
school personnel (e.g. counselor, teacher, coach, professor, or principal), and community
person (e.g. minister, civic leader, or mentor). The letters must bear the organization's
logo and MUST BE ADDRESSED to North Arundel County Alumnae Chapter
(NACAC).
 Adhere to the scholarship rule (listed below)

Application Rules:

  • Applicants must authorize the release of all information relative to this application process including high school and college transcripts/grade reports.

  • Personal reference letters/statements or other information from community service or leadership roles.

  • The Scholarship Awards Committee may use portions of the application package information to highlight achievements of the scholarship recipients in the Award Celebration program.

  • The scholarship recipient must be present at the annual Scholarship function to be awarded the scholarship.

  • Once enrolled in the college of their choice, the scholarship recipient must forward a verification of enrollment to the Scholarship Awards Committee.

  • Scholarship awards will not be processed without these documents.

  • Scholarship Awards will be disbursed in the Fall (SEPTEMBER) of the student's academic year. 

  • Decisions of the North Arundel County Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Committee are final.
